Our Story
In 2005, our dog Libby passed away. She was our baby. It was difficult getting over her loss — specifically the emptiness in our house, no more long walks, no more greetings or barking at the door, and no more unconditional love.
A while after Libby left us, we were sitting on a bench on the boardwalk in the Beach one day, petting and talking to all the dogs that passed by. We reminisced about Libby but agreed that we still could not bring ourselves to get another dog. Then my wife Karen came up with the idea of looking after dogs for people going out of town as a way to help fill the void we still had.
And that was the beginning of Libby's Retreat. We started boarding dogs and shortly after, I gave up my job exercising horses at Woodbine Racetrack and extended our services to include dog walking and at-home visits. Libby's Retreat is now my fulltime job. I love my life today, surrounded by dogs and by Libby's spirit, which we are now truly able to honour.
When dogs come to stay at our house, it quickly becomes their second home. We treat our clients exactly as they are treated in their own home and keep all their habits the same — even if it is sleeping on our bed and cuddling on the couch with us.
We are fully insured and bonded and certified in Pet First Aid. We are extremely responsible and will always ensure that your dog has the best care and attention.
Call me and come by with your dog for a visit.
